They show that the tpl2 kinase exerts tumor-suppressive functions by modulating intestinal myofibroblast (IMF)-dependent release of Hepatocyte Growth factor (HGF) and crosstalk with tumor epithelial cells. Detailed molecular dissection of this novel Tpl2-mediated pathway in mesenchymal cells of the tumor microenvironment may provide innovative means for combating colon carcinomas and other solid tumours in humans.
