In the recently described (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28746875) nascent RNA-seq approach, newly synthesized RNA is labeled by ethynyl-uridine (EU) treatment of live animals. The procedure uniformly maps nascent RNA transcripts along genes and also maps transient RNA downstream of the polyadenylation sites. The method provides valuable information for RNA synthesis rates in the organismal context. The data generated are comparable to those obtained by the widely used GRO-seq approach, which measures nascent RNA synthesis in vitro using isolated nuclei.
